preperations

On a journey like this you don't go unprepared. So the last few years of my life i hiked trough the North Down's Way(England), the region of The Auvergne in France(twice) and Jotunheimen in Norway. These where piece by piece beautiful and enriching experiences But since it was hard to imagen how the Gobi looks and feel when you have never seen it is very hard... The terrain had to be explored and a few things had to be arranged. So in may 2009 I planned a scouting trip destination: Gobi Desert The purpose of this trip was to get an idea of the desert landscape looked. The scouting trip started in Altay where we drove all day towards south. After a long journey through various landscapes we saw in the distance a nomadic family. We calculated our position on the map and saw that the end point of the scouting was not so far away. This was ideal because the expedition begins around this location. After having done the necessary things we drove towards the nomadic family. When we arrived at the nomadic family we where warmly welcomed. We went inside the yurt, where the whole family was present. We got food and drinks and talked about the expedition and other things including the agreements for buying the camels and training the week before the start of the expedition in 2010.
